On the response of the car from road disturbances

The tire/road contact dynamics is investigated in this paper by assuming a rocky road. The vehicle model to be used in simulation is a seven degree of freedom full-car model. The contact domain between the tire and the road has a shape defined by the Lamé curve, and it is identified by checking the minimum distance between bodies in contact. The nonlinear response from road disturbances is analyzed by assuming explicit relationships for contact and friction forces, respectively. Since the road is rocky, a bristle model was chosen to take into account the effect of the road irregularities on the tire’s action.
